      A cat called Zula was taken from Abyssinia to Britain in the s at the end of the Abyssinian War. This cat and possibly other imports were bred with similarly marked cats. Besides being called Abyssinians, at first these cats had other names, such as Hare Cat, Rabbit Cat, and Bunny Cat. The Abyssinian cat, sometimes referred to as "Aby," is a medium-sized cat with a long body, developed muscles, and a short-to-medium length coat. Unlike many domesticated cat breeds, Abyssinians are extremely active, playful cats that love to climb tall pieces of furniture, play with toys, and play interactive games with their cat : Christina Donnelly.

They are also very energetic and playful and will require a lot of space and stimulus to keep them entertained and happy. They are known to be very loyal cats to their owners and as such enjoy interaction with humans on a regular basis.
